Methodology
Randomized placebo-controlled trial of catechin-enriched green tea drinks (up to 886 mg catechins/day) for 90 days in moderately overweight Chinese adults
Key Findings
The highest-catechin group reduced estimated intra-abdominal fat area by 5.6 cm2, waist circumference by 1.9 cm and body weight by 1.2 kg versus control.
Conclusions
Two servings of extra high-catechin green tea produce modest reductions in intra-abdominal fat and waist circumference.
Limitations
Modest absolute effects, intra-abdominal fat estimated rather than imaged in all subjects, single ethnic population, caffeine co-exposure.
Supplements Studied
We observed a decrease in estimated intra-abdominal fat (IAF) area of 5.6 cm(2) in the GT3 group.
