Methodology
Randomised double-blind placebo-controlled trial of willow bark extract standardised to 120 mg or 240 mg salicin daily for 4 weeks in acute exacerbations of chronic low back pain.
Key Findings
39% of patients on 240 mg salicin were pain-free in the last week versus 6% on placebo; rescue tramadol use was lower with active treatment.
Conclusions
Willow bark extract standardised to salicin provides dose-dependent relief of low back pain exacerbations.
Limitations
Short duration; single trial; manufacturer supplied extract.
Supplements Studied
39% of patients receiving 240 mg salicin were pain-free in the last week versus 6% on placebo.
Outcomes Measured
