Series of random-effects meta-analyses of RCTs for CRP (6 trials), IL-6 (5 trials) and TNF-alpha (4 trials)
Key Findings
No significant overall effect on CRP, IL-6 or TNF-alpha. Subgroup reductions appeared only in participants with diagnosed disease, in females, and at high doses.
Conclusions
Overall anti-inflammatory effects of quercetin in humans were not confirmed; benefit may be limited to diseased populations at higher doses.
Limitations
Few trials per biomarker, high heterogeneity, subgroup findings are exploratory.
