    Methodology

    Systematic review and meta-analysis of 13 placebo-controlled clinical trials in overweight and obese adults

    Key Findings

    CLA reduced body weight (-0.52 kg), BMI (-0.23 kg/m2) and fat mass (-0.61 kg) and slightly increased lean body mass (+0.19 kg); waist circumference was unchanged.

    Conclusions

    CLA can slightly reduce body weight and fat mass, but the effect size is not clinically considerable.

    Limitations

    Substantial heterogeneity between trials; effects small and of doubtful clinical relevance.
