    Published in Nutrients

    Methodology

12-week randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial in 80 adults with fasting plasma glucose 100-140 mg/dL receiving an Omija (Schisandra) extract and soybean mixture or placebo, with glycemic, insulin, fructosamine, lipid and safety outcomes

    Key Findings

The Schisandra-soybean mixture lowered fasting and postprandial glucose, insulin AUC, fructosamine and LDL cholesterol versus placebo with no clinically significant safety findings.

    Conclusions

Supports metabolic benefit for a combination product rather than Schisandra alone.

    Limitations

Combination intervention; 12 weeks; prediabetic range only; likely industry involvement.

    Supplements Studied

After the intervention, the OSM group showed significantly decreased levels of FPG, PPG (30, 60 min), PPI (60 min), insulin area under the curve (AUC), fructosamine, and low-density-lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol compared to the placebo group.
