Methodology
Randomised crossover trial in healthy adults comparing bolus cold versus warm water ingestion before graded head-up tilt with lower body negative pressure, measuring orthostatic tolerance time and cardiovascular responses.
Key Findings
Bolus cold water drinking produced favourable haemodynamic responses during head-up tilt and lower body negative pressure, but did not significantly extend orthostatic tolerance time compared with warm water.
Conclusions
In healthy controls, bolus cold water drinking results in favourable orthostatic cardiovascular responses during HUT/LBNP without significantly altering OT.
Limitations
Very small sample (n=14) of healthy controls rather than patients with orthostatic intolerance, laboratory tilt protocol, and single acute exposure.
