Published in Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews

    Methodology

Cochrane systematic review and meta-analysis of 39 randomized controlled trials of probiotics for treating established eczema in children and adults

    Key Findings

Probiotics made little or no difference to patient-rated eczema symptoms (MD -0.44 on a 0-20 scale) or quality of life; small reductions in investigator-rated SCORAD were judged below the threshold for clinical relevance.

    Conclusions

Current evidence shows probiotics do not meaningfully improve established eczema.

    Limitations

Moderate-to-low certainty, wide variation in strains and ages, many small trials at unclear risk of bias.
