Published in Phytomedicine
Methodology
Systematic review and dose-response meta-analysis of 13 articles comprising 16 RCTs in adults
Key Findings
Significant reduction in BMI (WMD -0.403 kg/m2) but no significant change in body weight (WMD -0.585 kg; 95% CI -1.498 to 0.329) or waist circumference; effects larger at baseline BMI >=25 and absent below 4 weeks.
Conclusions
Green coffee extract may modestly improve obesity indices, mainly in people with a starting BMI of 25 or above.
Limitations
Body weight and waist circumference effects were not significant; small trials with commercial funding common.
Outcomes Measured
Results revealed significant reduction in BMI (WMD: -0.403 kg/m2, 95% CI: -0.800, -0.005, p = 0.047) and no significant change in BW
