Methodology
Untargeted plasma metabolomics analysis of the randomized, placebo-controlled proof-of-concept trial of live and pasteurized A. muciniphila in insulin-resistant volunteers with metabolic syndrome.
Key Findings
Both live and pasteurized A. muciniphila altered amino acid metabolism (lower arginine and alanine, changes in tyrosine, phenylalanine, tryptophan and glutathione intermediates) and increased acylcarnitines and acetoacetate, suggesting enhanced beta-oxidation and ketogenesis.
Conclusions
Metabolomic signatures are consistent with a metabolic effect of A. muciniphila supplementation, particularly the pasteurized form.
Limitations
Exploratory secondary analysis of a small proof-of-concept trial; metabolite shifts are not clinical endpoints.
