Abstract
Placebo-controlled trial of probiotics with cetirizine for chronic urticaria.
Methodology
Four-way-blind randomized trial comparing probiotic plus cetirizine with placebo plus cetirizine for eight weeks.
Key Findings
Urticaria activity improved more with probiotics, but quality of life did not differ between groups.
Conclusions
Probiotics may modestly improve urticaria activity as an adjunct but did not improve quality of life.
Limitations
Very small sample, short treatment, single product, and no long-term follow-up.
Supplements Studied
Probiotic consumption along with antihistamines significantly improved the activity of urticaria but not the quality of life of patients.
