    Methodology

    Randomised double-blind placebo-controlled trial: 21 football athletes given vitamin C (500 mg/d) plus vitamin E (400 IU/d) for 15 days around a plyometric and resistance exercise-induced oxidative stress protocol, with DOMS and performance measured to 72 h

    Key Findings

    Supplementation raised plasma vitamins C and E and blunted lipid peroxidation markers, but did not improve delayed-onset muscle soreness or performance recovery relative to placebo.

    Conclusions

    Antioxidant vitamins suppress oxidative stress biomarkers without translating into less soreness or better performance.

    Limitations

    Small single-site sample, trained young male athletes only, short follow-up.
