Published in Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews
Methodology
Cochrane systematic review and random-effects meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials of non-Chinese herbal medicines, including Glycyrrhiza preparations, versus placebo or active comparators in functional dyspepsia; searched to December 2022
Key Findings
Some herbal preparations improved dyspepsia symptoms versus placebo, but the certainty of evidence was low to very low across most comparisons, and trials were small and short.
Conclusions
Herbal treatments for functional dyspepsia, licorice extracts included, show promise but rest on low-certainty evidence.
Limitations
Heterogeneous preparations and doses; small trials; high or unclear risk of bias; short follow-up.
Supplements Studied
