Brownley KA, Von Holle A, Hamer RM, La Via M, Bulik CM

Published in Journal of Psychosomatic Research

    Methodology

6-month double-blind placebo-controlled pilot trial of 600 or 1000 mcg/day chromium picolinate in overweight adults with binge eating disorder

    Key Findings

Fasting glucose fell significantly with chromium, but reductions in binge frequency, weight and depression were numerically greater yet not statistically significant

    Conclusions

Chromium did not significantly reduce binge eating in this underpowered pilot

    Limitations

Very small pilot sample, limited statistical power, surrogate metabolic endpoint

    Supplements Studied

Fasting glucose was significantly reduced in both chromium groups compared to the placebo group
