The most reliable reducers are regular protein-rich meals, adequate sleep (under 6 hours meaningfully increases next-day intake), and not keeping trigger foods at home. Root Causes
Cravings are a reward-system phenomenon, not a nutritional signal. Dopaminergic pathways learn to anticipate energy-dense food, and cues — time of day, location, emotional state — trigger that anticipation. Sleep restriction amplifies it by shifting ghrelin and leptin, and glycaemic swings add a physiological hunger signal on top. Restriction paradoxically strengthens cravings by increasing the reward value of the restricted food.
