Methodology
Randomized controlled trial comparing alendronate plus alfacalcidol with alfacalcidol alone in glucocorticoid-treated myasthenia gravis patients; dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry bone mineral density measured at baseline and 12 months.
Key Findings
Over 12 months in patients with myasthenia gravis starting glucocorticoids, alfacalcidol alone did not prevent bone loss, whereas alendronate combined with alfacalcidol significantly increased lumbar spine and hip bone mineral density.
Conclusions
Alfacalcidol alone failed to prevent bone loss; combination with alendronate significantly increased bone mineral density.
Limitations
