Borrelli F, Colalto C, Delfino DV, Iriti M, Izzo AA
Published in Drugs
Methodology
Systematic review and meta-analysis of 24 randomized controlled trials including 2080 men with erectile dysfunction, quality assessed with Jadad score and Cochrane risk-of-bias tool
Key Findings
Ginseng significantly improved erectile function (SMD 0.43; 95% CI 0.15-0.70; P<0.01); Pinus pinaster and Lepidium meyenii gave preliminary positive results; saffron and Tribulus terrestris produced mixed results.
Conclusions
Only ginseng has reasonably consistent trial support among herbal supplements for erectile dysfunction; other herbs remain unproven.
Limitations
Included trials were often small and of low methodological quality; publication bias likely.
