    Effects of taurine supplementation on hepatic markers of inflammation and lipid metabolism in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus

    Abstract

    Randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of 48 type 2 diabetes patients. Taurine supplementation (1000mg 3x daily) for 8 weeks significantly reduced inflammatory markers (CRP, IL-6, TNF-alpha), improved lipid profile (reduced triglycerides, total cholesterol, LDL; increased HDL), and decreased liver enzymes. No adverse effects. Demonstrates taurine's anti-inflammatory and metabolic benefits in diabetes.

    Methodology

    Randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial in adults with type 2 diabetes; taurine 1,000 mg three times daily versus placebo for 8 weeks, with inflammatory markers, lipid profile and liver enzymes measured before and after.

    Key Findings
