Published in Nutrients
Methodology
12-week double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of pasteurized A. muciniphila HB05 (1.0 x 10^10 cells/day) versus placebo in adults aged 60 and above.
Key Findings
Significant improvements in peak torque and peak torque per body weight of the left leg extensor muscles versus placebo (p = 0.0103 and p = 0.0052) and elevated follistatin (p = 0.0063). No safety concerns were reported.
Conclusions
HB05P is a promising postbiotic that may enhance muscle strength in older adults.
Limitations
Single-country trial; the strength benefit reached significance only in the left leg extensors; the sponsor manufactures the strain.
Supplements Studied
The HB05P group showed significant improvements in peak torque and peak torque per body weight of the left leg extensor muscles compared to the placebo group.
