Krebs Cycle Enhancement
Improved citric acid cycle efficiency for cellular energy metabolism.
TL;DR
The citric acid cycle is rarely the limiting step in healthy people; training and mitochondrial density are. Supplements matter mainly when a specific B vitamin or CoQ10 deficiency exists.
Why It Matters
Impaired oxidative metabolism underlies mitochondrial myopathies, statin-associated muscle symptoms and part of the fatigue seen in chronic disease. In otherwise healthy adults, perceived low energy is far more often sleep, iron, thyroid or mood related.
How to Measure
Biomarkers
Optimization Protocol
Build mitochondrial density with zone 2 aerobic work three to four times weekly plus occasional high-intensity intervals. Correct iron, B12 and thyroid abnormalities before supplementing. CoQ10 at 100-200 mg is justified in statin users with muscle symptoms, and a B-complex covers riboflavin, niacin and thiamine cofactors where diet is poor.
Supporting Supplements
CoQ10
CoQ10 helps where levels are depleted, most clearly in statin users and heart failure, with little effect in healthy adults.
Creatine Monohydrate
Creatine supports cellular energy buffering upstream of oxidative metabolism and is the best-evidenced energy supplement overall.
B-Complex Vitamins
B vitamins are direct cofactors for the cycle and correcting a shortfall restores energy metabolism; extra beyond sufficiency does nothing.
