Published in Nutrition, Vol. 12 (5), pp. 344-8
Methodology
Controlled dietary zinc restriction and repletion study in healthy young men measuring serum testosterone and binding proteins.
Key Findings
Marginal zinc deficiency markedly reduced serum testosterone, and repletion restored it in older marginally deficient men.
Conclusions
Zinc adequacy is required for normal androgen and binding-protein balance.
Limitations
Very small sample; older non-randomised design.
Supplements Studied
Marginal zinc deficiency markedly reduced serum testosterone, and repletion restored it
Outcomes Measured
Marginal zinc deficiency markedly reduced serum testosterone, and repletion restored it
