Effect of pyridoxine on human hypophyseal trophic hormone release: a possible stimulation of hypothalamic dopaminergic pathway

    Delitala G, Masala A, Alagna S, Devilla L

Published in Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, Vol. 42 (3), pp. 603-6

    Methodology

Controlled endocrine study of pyridoxine administration on basal and stimulated prolactin secretion in humans.

    Key Findings

Pyridoxine acutely suppressed prolactin release through dopaminergic stimulation, but the effect was short-lived and did not normalise pathological hyperprolactinaemia.

    Conclusions

Vitamin B6 exerts only transient dopaminergic prolactin suppression.

    Limitations

Very small, dated study; acute design only.

    Supplements Studied

    Outcomes Measured
