Published in Asia Pac J Clin Nutr, Vol. 35 (3), pp. 451-462
Methodology
Meta-analysis of four randomized trials (eight comparisons, 392 participants) of tart cherry versus placebo or usual diet reporting serum uric acid, plus network pharmacology analyses.
Key Findings
Tart cherry was associated with a modest reduction in serum uric acid (SMD -0.22, 95% CI -0.43 to -0.01), with substantial heterogeneity.
Conclusions
Tart cherry may modestly lower serum uric acid, but the evidence is limited in quantity and consistency.
Limitations
Only four trials; heterogeneous; serum uric acid is a marker, not gout flares.
Supplements Studied
Tart cherry intake may modestly lower serum uric acid concentration
