Published in Pharmacol Res, Vol. 99, pp. 329-36

    Methodology

Systematic review and meta-analysis of placebo-controlled randomised trials measuring plasma CoQ10 during statin therapy, searched to April 2015.

    Key Findings

Data from 8 placebo-controlled treatment arms showed statins lowered plasma CoQ10 by 0.44 µmol/L (95% CI -0.52 to -0.37, p < 0.001), consistently across atorvastatin, simvastatin, rosuvastatin and pravastatin.

    Conclusions

Statins significantly reduce plasma CoQ10; the clinical relevance needs further trials.

    Limitations

Measures a blood level, not a clinical outcome; few trial arms.

    Supplements Studied

    CoQ10
