Published in Genes Nutr, Vol. 20 (1), pp. 27
Methodology
Systematic review and dose-response meta-analysis of 41 RCTs (2,049 adults), searched to August 2025.
Key Findings
LDL cholesterol fell by 8.55 mg/dL (95% CI -12.92 to -4.19) and total cholesterol by 9.05 mg/dL; HDL and triglyceride changes were not significant. Heterogeneity was high (I2 about 88%); dose and duration had no significant linear influence.
Conclusions
Psyllium significantly decreases LDL and total cholesterol.
Limitations
Considerable heterogeneity; PubMed lists it as a review, but the abstract describes a systematic review and meta-analysis.
