Methodology
Systematic review of PubMed and Embase to June 2016 of preclinical and clinical studies of flower pollen extract in CP/CPPS, with a meta-analysis of randomised trials.
Key Findings
Six uncontrolled studies (206 patients) had a mean response rate of 83.6%; four RCTs included 384 patients. Pooled, the extract improved quality of life (OR 0.52, 0.34-0.81; p=0.02). No significant adverse events were reported.
Conclusions
Flower pollen extract appears beneficial in CP/CPPS; more robust RCTs with longer follow-up are needed.
Limitations
Few, small and heterogeneous trials of different products; authors ran several of the included trials; uncontrolled response rates are inflated by placebo response.
Supplements Studied
flower pollen extract could significantly improve patients' quality of life
