    Systematic review of 113 controlled human intervention trials across 17 foods marketed as superfoods, assessing waist circumference or BMI, blood pressure, HDL cholesterol, triacylglycerol and glucose.

    Key Findings

    Bee pollen contributed zero controlled human intervention trials on metabolic syndrome parameters, and overall only limited evidence was found for superfoods on these risk factors.

    Conclusions

    There is no controlled human trial evidence that bee pollen improves metabolic syndrome risk factors.

    Limitations

    Search closed in April 2017; heterogeneous doses and populations across included foods.
