Methodology
Umbrella review of 28 systematic reviews and meta-analyses covering 124 outcomes from 672 randomized trials (273,523 participants) of omega-3 supplementation in pregnancy, lactation and infancy, graded with AMSTAR2 and GRADE.
Key Findings
Moderate-to-high certainty evidence supported reductions in pre-eclampsia and low birth weight; maternal mood outcomes were not supported at comparable certainty.
Conclusions
Omega-3 has well-supported obstetric benefits but weaker evidence for maternal depression.
Limitations
Umbrella design inherits limitations of included reviews; heterogeneous doses.
Supplements Studied
Our results demonstrated evidence of moderate to high certainty that omega-3 supplementation reduced the risk of pre-eclampsia and low-birth weight and improved head circumference when used in pregnant women
