    Methodology

    Narrative/systematic literature review of studies to January 2024 on diet composition, dietary patterns and eating behaviors in relation to PMS occurrence and severity.

    Key Findings

    Lower intake of simple carbohydrates, fat, salt and alcohol and higher intake of foods rich in B vitamins, vitamin D, zinc, calcium and omega-3 were associated with less severe PMS, including fluid-retention symptoms.

    Conclusions

    Dietary pattern quality is associated with PMS severity, but causal supplementation evidence is weaker.

    Limitations

    Largely observational studies; confounding by overall lifestyle.
