Clinical evidence of caries prevention by hydroxyapatite: An updated systematic review and meta-analysis

Published in J Dent, Vol. 151, pp. 105429
Methodology
Updated systematic review and meta-analysis of clinical and in situ trials of hydroxyapatite oral care products against placebo, no treatment or fluoride; 18 studies retrieved and 5 clinical and 8 in situ trials meta-analysed.
Key Findings
The authors concluded evidence for fluoride-free hydroxyapatite oral care products reducing dental caries had expanded in both randomized clinical and in situ trials.
Conclusions
More studies now show hydroxyapatite is effective as an anticaries active ingredient in the absence of fluoride.
Limitations
Includes in situ studies using proxy outcomes; the abstract gives no pooled caries effect size; reviewers (Pawinska, Paszynska, Enax, Meyer, Limeback) overlap with authors of the included trials.
Supplements Studied
