    Double-blind randomized crossover trial of nitrate-rich versus nitrate-depleted beetroot juice for 9 days in patients with left ventricular ejection fraction 40% or below, with constant-load cardiopulmonary exercise testing

    Key Findings

    Nitrate supplementation raised plasma nitrite significantly but produced no consistent improvement in exercise tolerance or muscle oxygenation in HFrEF patients.

    Conclusions

    Short-term dietary nitrate increases nitrite availability without reliably improving exercise tolerance in HFrEF.

    Very small sample (10 completers), short 9-day supplementation, single-center.
