Published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition
Methodology
Double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial of 2000 IU vitamin D3, 1000 mg fish oil, or placebo daily for 6 months in women aged 12-25 with surgically confirmed endometriosis
Key Findings
Participants in the vitamin D arm showed improvement in visual analogue scale pain scores over 6 months; the fish oil arm did not differ meaningfully from placebo on the primary pain outcome.
Conclusions
Vitamin D supplementation may modestly help endometriosis-associated pain in young women; omega-3 supplementation showed no clear benefit.
Limitations
Small sample size per arm, adolescent/young adult population only, and attrition limit generalizability.
Supplements Studied
Participants in the vitamin D arm experienced significant improvement in VAS pain
Participants were randomly assigned to receive 2000 IU vitamin D3, 1000 mg fish oil, or placebo daily for 6 mo
