Published in The Journal of Community and Supportive Oncology
Methodology
12-week randomized, placebo-controlled trial of a damiana-containing multi-ingredient supplement in female breast and gynaecologic cancer survivors, measured by FSFI and FACT-G
Key Findings
The supplement did not significantly improve sexual functioning or quality of life compared with placebo in female cancer survivors.
Conclusions
A well-powered, independent trial of the same damiana-containing formula found no benefit, tempering earlier positive manufacturer-linked results.
Limitations
Cancer survivor population may differ from healthy women; multi-ingredient product.
Supplements Studied
Outcome measures were the Female Sexual Function Inventory (FSFI) and the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy - General (FACT-G).
