Greenlee H, Atkinson C, Stanczyk FZ, Lampe JW

Published in Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention

    Methodology

Placebo-controlled parallel-arm pilot trial over five menstrual cycles of a combination botanical supplement (including Taraxacum officinale) versus dietary change versus placebo in healthy premenopausal women

    Key Findings

The combination botanical supplement containing dandelion produced no clear changes in sex steroid hormone concentrations relative to placebo in this pilot.

    Conclusions

Pilot data provide feasibility and safety information but no evidence of hormonal effects attributable to dandelion.

    Limitations

Small pilot; six-herb combination; exploratory endpoints.

    Supplements Studied

The intervention arms were as follows: combination botanical supplement (Curcuma longa, Cynara scolymus, Rosmarinus officinalis, Schisandra chinensis, Silybum marinum, and Taraxacum officinalis; n = 15).
