Published in BMC Complement Med Ther, Vol. 26 (1)

    Methodology

12-week randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled pilot trial in 40 healthy postmenopausal women aged 41-65 in Thailand; curcuminoids 1,000 mg a day versus placebo. Primary endpoint: change in weekly hot flash frequency.

    Key Findings

At week 12, weekly hot flashes fell by 7.35 more episodes a week with curcuminoids than with placebo (95% CI -10.29 to -4.41; p < 0.001), with a significant difference also at week 6. Total MENQOL and MRS II scores did not differ at week 12. All participants completed, with no serious adverse events.

    Conclusions

Curcuminoids reduced hot flash frequency in this pilot; the authors call the findings preliminary and hypothesis-generating.

    Limitations

Pilot with 40 participants; retrospectively registered; quality-of-life totals did not improve; needs confirmation in larger trials.
