Methodology
GRADE-assessed systematic review and dose-response meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials of CoQ10 on cardiovascular risk factors in prediabetes and type 2 diabetes, searched to May 2025, with random-effects models.
Key Findings
20 RCTs. CoQ10 lowered triglycerides, fasting glucose, HbA1c, HOMA-IR and C-reactive protein and raised HDL cholesterol, but did not significantly affect total or LDL cholesterol, systolic or diastolic blood pressure, or malondialdehyde.
Conclusions
CoQ10 may improve several cardiovascular risk factors in prediabetes and type 2 diabetes; longer trials with varied doses are needed.
Limitations
Participants not selected for hypertension; heterogeneous doses and durations; abstract does not give the pooled blood pressure estimates.
Supplements Studied
did not significantly affect total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein, systolic and diastolic blood pressure
Outcomes Measured
did not significantly affect total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein, systolic and diastolic blood pressure
