Methodology
Single-arm study of 15 consecutively diagnosed adults with copper deficiency who received 12 months of copper supplementation, scored on the Barthel Index of daily activities.
Key Findings
Barthel Index scores rose from 74 to 83 after 12 months (P = 0.007), and the longer symptoms had lasted before treatment, the smaller the improvement (P = 0.005).
Conclusions
Early and sustained copper supplementation for at least 12 months may improve daily function in adults with copper deficiency.
Limitations
No control group, only 15 patients, and a functional score rather than nerve measurements.
Supplements Studied
sustained supplementation with copper for at least 12 months may improve functional ADLs
