Methodology
Multicentre, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of 120 mg EGb761 twice daily in adults aged 70+ reporting memory complaints, 5-year follow-up
Key Findings
Conversion to probable Alzheimer's disease did not differ between ginkgo (4%) and placebo (5%); hazard ratio 0.84 (95% CI 0.60-1.18).
Conclusions
Long-term ginkgo extract did not reduce progression to Alzheimer's disease compared with placebo.
Limitations
High dropout rate; event rate lower than anticipated, reducing power.
