    Randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled pilot trial of 2000 mg/day Momordica charantia for 12 weeks in patients with obesity.

    No significant reductions in body weight, BMI, waist circumference or body fat; significant decreases in triglycerides and VLDL.

    Conclusions

    Bitter melon did not reduce body weight or fat in obesity, though it lowered triglycerides and VLDL.

    Pilot size (n=24), short duration, placebo group gained weight.
