Published in Complement Ther Med, Vol. 68, pp. 102842
Methodology
Systematic review and meta-analysis of 10 non-exercise randomized trials in adults testing tart cherry on circulating CRP, IL-6 and TNF-alpha; searches to May 2022.
Key Findings
Tart cherry lowered plasma CRP (WMD -0.55 mg/L, 95% CI -1.03 to -0.06, p = 0.029) with no significant effect on IL-6 or, in three studies, TNF-alpha.
Conclusions
Tart cherry modestly lowers CRP outside the exercise setting; no effect on IL-6 or TNF-alpha.
Limitations
Ten trials with varied products, doses and populations; small absolute CRP change.
Supplements Studied
TC had a significant decreasing effect on plasma CRP level
