Published in Aging Male, Vol. 12 (4), pp. 104-12

    Methodology

Randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial: 86 men with sexual dysfunction and low testosterone and/or DHEA took oral testosterone undecanoate 80 mg twice daily, DHEA 50 mg twice daily, or placebo.

    Key Findings

No significant differences in sexual interest or erectile function on the ADAM, IIEF, AMS or GAQ questionnaires. Serum DHEA rose in the DHEA group; PSA stayed stable in all groups.

    Conclusions

Neither oral testosterone undecanoate nor DHEA showed a clinical benefit in men with hypoandrogenism and sexual dysfunction.

    Limitations

Small groups; the abstract does not state the treatment duration; the testosterone arm may have been underdosed.
