    Methodology

Prospective multicentre randomised double-blind placebo-controlled Italian trial of PureCyTonin cytoplasmic pollen extract versus placebo for three months in 39 breast cancer survivors with hot flashes.

    Key Findings

The pollen extract group showed a reduction in hot flash number at three months versus baseline (p=0.02) with improved VAS ratings for intensity, sweating, irritability and fatigue, and a better total Menopause Rating Scale at one month.

    Conclusions

Purified cytoplasmic pollen extract significantly reduced hot flash frequency in breast cancer survivors and was well tolerated.

    Limitations

Very small sample (19 vs 20), short duration, within-group comparisons emphasised over between-group differences.
