Nahata MC, Slencsak CA, Kamp J
Published in Drug Intelligence & Clinical Pharmacy
Methodology
Randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled crossover trial of chlorophyllin 100 mg/day for 2 weeks per arm with 1-week washout
Key Findings
Mean urinary odor intensity fell about 21% on chlorophyllin and rose about 9% on placebo, but the difference was not statistically significant.
Conclusions
Chlorophyllin 100 mg/day for two weeks may not be effective for controlling urinary odor.
Limitations
Small sample; subjective visual analog odor scale; older study with limited dose exploration.
Supplements Studied
Despite the decrease in urinary odor in many patients receiving chlorophyllin, its effect was not significantly greater than that of placebo.
