    Methodology

    Multicentre randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of N-acetylcysteine 600 mg twice daily for one year in Chinese patients with moderate-to-severe COPD, with annual exacerbation rate as the primary endpoint.

    Key Findings

    N-acetylcysteine 1200 mg/day significantly reduced the annual exacerbation rate compared with placebo, with good tolerability.

    Conclusions

    High-dose N-acetylcysteine reduces exacerbations in moderate-to-severe COPD.
