Methodology
Systematic review and meta-analysis of six articles from five RCTs in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.
Key Findings
No benefit on total cholesterol, LDL, triglycerides, insulin or TNF-alpha; improvements in ALT, AST, fasting blood sugar, HDL, hs-CRP and fatty liver grade.
Conclusions
Nigella sativa improved liver enzymes and steatosis grade in NAFLD but left several lipid and insulin markers unchanged.
Limitations
Only five small trials, short durations, imaging-based grading is operator dependent.
Supplements Studied
