    Antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects of curcuminoid-piperine combination in subjects with metabolic syndrome: A randomized controlled trial and an updated meta-analysis

    Methodology

    Randomized double-blind placebo-controlled trial of 1 g/day curcuminoids plus 10 mg/day piperine for 8 weeks in adults with metabolic syndrome, plus an updated random-effects meta-analysis of RCTs on circulating CRP.

    Curcuminoid-piperine supplementation raised superoxide dismutase activity and reduced malondialdehyde and C-reactive protein versus placebo; the pooled meta-analysis supported a significant reduction in circulating CRP.

    Conclusions

    Bioavailability-enhanced curcuminoids improve oxidative stress and systemic inflammation markers in metabolic syndrome.

    Limitations
