Methodology
Randomized double-blind placebo-controlled trial of 1 g/day curcuminoids plus 10 mg/day piperine for 8 weeks in adults with metabolic syndrome, plus an updated random-effects meta-analysis of RCTs on circulating CRP.
Key Findings
Curcuminoid-piperine supplementation raised superoxide dismutase activity and reduced malondialdehyde and C-reactive protein versus placebo; the pooled meta-analysis supported a significant reduction in circulating CRP.
Conclusions
Bioavailability-enhanced curcuminoids improve oxidative stress and systemic inflammation markers in metabolic syndrome.
Limitations
Short 8-week duration, surrogate biomarker endpoints, high heterogeneity across pooled trials, metabolic syndrome population rather than healthy aging cohorts.
