Abstract
Comprehensive review of omega-3 for depression, showing EPA (1-2g daily) significantly improves depressive symptoms. Mechanisms include anti-inflammatory effects, neurotransmitter modulation, and neuroprotection. Higher EPA:DHA ratio more effective for mood disorders.
Methodology
Meta-analysis of 13 randomized controlled trials examining omega-3 fatty acid supplementation effects on depressive symptoms in patients with major depressive disorder. Analyzed EPA and DHA contributions separately. Evaluated dose-response relationships and compared omega-3 monotherapy vs adjunctive use with antidepressants.
