Abstract
Several antimuscarinic agents are available for overactive bladder. This systematic review and meta-analysis synthesized randomized controlled trials comparing their efficacy and tolerability.
Methodology
Literature search of RCTs comparing antimuscarinic agents with placebo or each other; pooled data on efficacy and tolerability.
Key Findings
All antimuscarinics were more effective than placebo in reducing daily micturitions, urgency, and incontinence episodes; newer agents showed improved tolerability.
Conclusions
Antimuscarinic drugs are effective and reasonably well tolerated for OAB treatment, with formulation and agent choice influencing the efficacy-tolerability balance.
Limitations
Heterogeneous trial designs and outcome definitions; predominantly short-term (12-week) trials; limited head-to-head comparisons; possible publication bias.
