    Systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials of N-acetylcysteine versus placebo or metformin in women with polycystic ovary syndrome, pooling ovulation and pregnancy rates.

    Key Findings

    N-acetylcysteine significantly improved ovulation and pregnancy rates compared with placebo, but was not superior to metformin on these endpoints.

    Conclusions

    N-acetylcysteine improves ovulation and pregnancy rates in PCOS relative to placebo.

    Limitations

    Included trials were small, mostly single-centre and of variable methodological quality; live birth rarely reported.
