    Preventative effect of a flavonoid, enzymatically modified isoquercitrin on ocular symptoms of Japanese cedar pollinosis

    Methodology

    Parallel-group, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of 100 mg/day EMIQ for 8 weeks, started 4 weeks before pollen release

    Key Findings

    Ocular symptom plus medication score was significantly lower with EMIQ; ocular symptom and congestion scores improved at weeks 5-6. No significant difference in nasal symptoms. Serum quercetin derivatives rose significantly.

    Conclusions

    Pre-season EMIQ reduced ocular but not nasal symptoms of cedar pollinosis.

    Limitations

    Small sample (n=24), short duration, benefits limited to eye symptoms.
