    Abstract

Randomized controlled trial showing resveratrol supplementation improves memory performance and functional connectivity in older adults.

    Methodology

Randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial with resting-state fMRI, memory testing and metabolic biomarkers over 26 weeks.

    Key Findings

In 23 healthy overweight older adults, resveratrol 200 mg/day for 26 weeks improved verbal memory retention and increased hippocampal functional connectivity relative to placebo, accompanied by lower HbA1c and higher body-fat-adjusted metabolic markers.

    Conclusions

Resveratrol produced a measurable memory and hippocampal connectivity benefit in older adults over six months — an encouraging but small pilot-scale signal that has not been confirmed in larger trials.

    Limitations

Very small sample, healthy volunteers, multiple neuroimaging and cognitive comparisons, and no replication at scale; resveratrol bioavailability is poor and dose-response is unclear.
